Class description
If it’s moderate intensity, minimal impact you’re after, AquaLow may just be the perfect class for you. We offer three 45-minute low intensity classes a week, designed with your joints in mind. Your knees will thank you as you enjoy the weightlessness and resistance of the water while improving fitness and toning muscles.
If it’s intensity, energy and a heart pumping workout you seek, try this class. You’ll increase your cardio fitness, gain strength and tone muscles during a session where all exercises can be scaled to suit your ability. With four high intensity classes per week your fitness will improve in no time.
Taught in deep water with buoyancy belts, this incredible class has no impact at all, but don’t think for a second that you’re not going to get a great workout! This is our highest intensity class and a favourite of many. Your core stability, endurance and cardio fitness will all be tested, but the results will be well worth it, and the fun will keep you coming back for more. We have two deep water classes available each week so come and give it a try.
Dance your way to fitness and get ready to move, stretch and strengthen with AquaGroove! Choreographed to the beat of your favourite hits, this class will get your whole body 'grooving' in the water. This fun and energising class is a great way to tone your body and stay fit.
Tailored classes to suit your needs
Designed for specific needs, these term-time classes require pre-booking and combine low-impact exercises with warm water for a truly supportive experience.
Whether you’re rediscovering movement, easing joint pain, or finding inner calm, there’s a class for you. With expert instructors and a welcoming environment, these sessions will help you feel stronger, more flexible, and at ease in your body.

This lovely low impact class in deliciously warm water will remind you what it feels like to ‘Move’. Our professional, experienced instructors want to share their love of exercise and knowledge of movement with you. They will ensure your technique is sound as you become aware of correct posture and how to engage it. Importantly they will also focus on balance, strength and the one we all want more of - flexibility!
This specialist class is designed for adults with mobility issues and joint pain, such as arthritis.
Taught in small groups at Coastlands Aquatic Centre, this class provides more focus on the needs of individuals in a safe environment with gentle movements and stretching exercises in the warmer water of the programmes pool (32 degrees).
Float your way to better mobility while reducing stress and easing tension. This class combines the mindful movements of yoga in soothing warm water to create a low-impact, calming practice that nurtures both body and mind.
You’ll move through a series of gentle poses and breathing exercises, supported by inflatable pads, aqua boards, or noodles. Whether you’re new to yoga or looking for a fresh way to connect with your practice, join us and discover the joy of moving with the flow!
Meet the Aqua team
Hi, I’m Zuri! I have a background in classical and modern contemporary dance and over 30 years of teaching experience in various fitness disciplines, including yoga, Zumba, and Pilates. In 2021, I was awarded ‘Yoga Teacher of the Year’ by the Exercise Association of NZ. With its gentle water-based approach and great music, AquaFit is perfect for everyone. Come give it a try!
Passion changes everything! For over 30 years I represented Les Mills as a presenter, trainer, assessor and group fitness manager. I also competed, coached and judged for the New Zealand Competitive Aerobic Federation. I discovered AquaFit three years ago and absolutely love it and I know you will be challenged and inspired by this fun programme too.
Proud mother of two beautiful children who keep me on my toes, I am passionate about dance and fitness. I am a qualified Royal Academy of Dance ballet teacher and have a diploma in commercial dance. I love passing on the joy of dance to my students and am excited to bring those elements to my AquaFit classes! Come and join in the fun!
Renee Gerlich is a children's swim instructor and AquaYoga teacher at Coastlands Aquatic Centre. She completed her yoga teacher training at Kindred Studio in Nelson in 2020, and has done additional training through Om Yoga studio in Auckland, the Isha Institute of Inner Sciences in Tennessee and Isha Yoga Centre in Coimbatore, India. Renee also studies and practices Thai massage.
Kia ora, I have always been passionate about health and fitness. My interests have included strength training, walking, aquajogging, and dance. I have been a group fitness instructor for 10+ years and have taught several fitness programs, including Zumba and Groove. I look forward to sharing your aquafitness journey with you.
I have recently discovered the world of AquaFit! How freeing it is to move your body in the water? Having been a group fitness instructor previously, teaching AquaFit has brought me back to my roots of moving my body. My classes are more fast paced, with a lot of laughs. Come along and move your body with me, it’s all fun in the water!
I have worked in the dance industry as a performer, teacher, and choreographer in both NZ and Australia. I moved to the Kāpiti Coast in 2003 and have been teaching both dance and aquafitness ever since. I teach AquaMove and introducing a new class, AquaGroove that is not too fast, and not too slow, and lots of fun.
I’m an Aquafit instructor, personal trainer, Pilates instructor, fitness instructor, and triathlon coach. I have additional qualifications in exercise for older adults, and my mission is to empower women, especially those in perimenopause, menopause, and beyond, by helping them discover the joys of water-based exercise and overall fitness.
